The adaptable frame of pictures comprises at least one rail (1) which grips the display object on at least two opposite edges, and has a U-shaped or similar section wherein the distance between the two free arms (12) of the rail is larger by a multiple than the thickness of the object to be displayed. Multipart clamping means (2) which can be displaced parallel to the centre part (10) of the section are provided between the back of the display object and the U-arm which lies opposite same. Thus the space for containing the display object can be adjusted so that a picture or display item of any thickness can be inserted. By using several clamping means large-sized posters etc. can be simply inserted and hung up.
