One side (13) of the rotor (7) has the conventional sealing strip replaced by a lip (19) running along the edge of the rotor face (17), deepened in way of the apex seal grooves (9) to prevent leakage there, and a slot (20) parallel and close to the side (13), of a depth (20a) no greater than the height of the apex seal (8) so that the latter also seals the slot ends. The portion of the rotor between the slot and the side may be manufactured separately from the rest and of a different material; a strip of low-friction material may be applied to the rubing surface.
