Moulding unbreakable automobile mirror housings - using a floating mould plus an annular seal to make a rigid foam support

Mirror is made by supporting a glass mirror on a mould surface surrounded by a recess for locating a flexible peripheral seal. A complementary mould block can bear against the seal to define a cavity for moulding a rigid foam body, pref. polyurethane, to support the mirror glass. Esp. for mfr. of rear view mirrors for vehicles, esp. heavy goods vehicles, etc. By using various profile seals, one mould is suitable for mfg. a variety of slightly different mirror shapes. The seal prevents any contamination of the mirror with stray foam resin which would require subsequent cleaning or trimming operations.
