Turntable chamber for making sintered plastics test pieces - for investigating materials or sintering process conditions

Appts. for making test pieces or panels of sintered powdered plastic matls. by heating the powder in trays on a turntable mounted in an insulated chamber. Banks of heaters heat the trays from above the below the turntable. The temp. is controlled in response to sensors monitoring the chamber air temp. and the surface temp. of the trays and for the layer of powdered or sintered resin. The rate of rotation of the turntable can be controlled externally. Appts is used esp. for making test pieces for investigation of either matls. of condition variables for sintering processes. Requires less elaborate equipment and less matl. than use of samples taken from sheet produced by conventional continuous sintering processes. Amenable to operating near or beyond practicable sintering conditions. The atmosphere in the exclosure is readily varied i.e., by displacing the air with CO2, N2 etc. Provides uniform heat distribution and temp. control.
