Extract of Cirsium arvense - Vasoconstrictor and antiinflammatory, useful for treatmt of haemorrhoids

The dried aq. extract of Cirsium arvense, a thistle growing in middle and northern Europe, is new. The extract has vasoconstricting and anti-inflammatory properties, and is esp. useful in the treatment of haemorrhoids and/or varices. The plant, esp. the aerial parts of young plants, are ground and dried, then extracted with distilled water at about 60 degrees C. The soln. is then conc. at low temp. and pref. spray dried.
