A nuclear reactor plant comprises a reactor, esp. fast reactor, in which the core is surrounded by a layer or blanket of breeder material and the coolant, esp. liquid sodium, flows in two divided streams, one through this breeder blanket and one through the core itself; the flow which has passed through the breeder blanket (5), surrounding the core, (2) then combines with the flow into the core itself. Pref. these two flows are mixed by a pump, esp. an injector pump (14, 15) as shown, in which the propulsion fluid is the liquid sodium entering the vessel, or by an electromagnetic pump.
