1427583 Egg-cooker L C T FAIRHEAD 23 April 1974 [11 April 1973] 17474/73 Heading A4D An egg poacher comprises a part-circular member 2 mounted on a circular base 1, the member carrying a cylindrical housing 8, open both towards and away from the base, for containing above the base an egg to be poached, a circular aperture 3 being provided in the base into alignment with which the housing may be moved by relative movement of the member and base to permit the egg to drop from the housing. As shown, member 2, of lesser diameter than base 1, has three housings 8 arranged on a circle around the member's axis of rotation. A flange 6a of a handle 6 bears against the underside of base 1 when the poacher is lifted. The base has a central circular hole 5 receiving a cylindrical portion of the handle. A square portion of the handle fits into square aperture 7 at the member's axis of rotation. An outward taper on housings 8 each side of member 2 retains them, other retaining methods are described. A 0.015 inch high ridge 10 ensures only part of each housing 8 touches the upper plastics coated surface of the base, the insides of housings 8 may also be coated. Member 2 is rotated by handle 6 relative to base 1 until no part of any housing is directly over aperture 3, eggs are dropped into the housings and the poacher placed in water to just cover the housings. After cooking, the housings are successively aligned with the aperture so the eggs drop through the base on to a plate, water having drained away via the aperture or other holes (not shown). In the embodiment of Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the base is extended upwardly forming a wall supporting a handle (9), handle (6) is shorter being for rotation not lifting, has no flange (6a) but merely a cylindrical end passing through an aperture (5) of a raised portion of the base. Other handles are described.
