Solid pharmaceutical unit dose forms which are particularly intended for oral intake and contain an edible therapeutically inactive carrier material in the form of a plurality of layers of paper-like material and/or polymeric substances, on which at least partially one or more medicaments are uniformly applied in finely divided form and contain essentially no pharmaceutical additives mixed with them, are described. The dose forms are sealed in such a way that no medicament is exposed and they can be produced by a high-speed pharmaceutical production technique. A particular advantage of the unit dose forms is that non-damaging on-line testing can be provided during the production thereof, e.g. in order to determine the amount and the uniformity of the medicament applied to the carrier material and thus to test the quality of the finished dose units by physical parameters.
