For the purpose of leak-proof mounting of the ends of a tube bundle (1), the tube plate of the heat exchanger is formed from fusible solder by lining the spaces between the tube ends (1') and the spaces between the ends and a ring (4) encompassing said ends with the fusible solder. It is possible in this way to reduce the distances of the tube ends in the tube plate, and thus to reduce the outside diameter of said tube plate. In order to produce the tube plate, the first step is to seal the tube ends (1') with covers (5) and to seal the ring (4) with a base (6). The tube ends are fixed in the ring, and thereupon the interspaces are lined. After the solder has solidified, the covers (5) and the base (6) are removed by machining. IMAGE
