The lagging mat for mine headings and roadways has hooked long bars and eyelets for stabilising and locating the mat structure when finally linked up in the heading, as in 2411435. The outer bars are straight and reach to the ends of the mat. Bars mounted at an angle on these long straight bars form the hook connection in conjunction with the hooks (20, 21) of the other, i.e. interposed, long bars of the mat. It is preferably for the additional bars to be welded to the straight, outer, long bars, and possibly likewise welded to the normal crossbars (7-13) completing the mat structure.
