A load limiting regulator for a load connected to a supply network has a secondary electrical load circuit contg. a thyristor which automatically switches when a predefined current is attained in the supply network or in the primary electrical load circuit. The thyristor control circuit is designed for low current consumption and the regulator is intended for use with several secondary load circuits. the control electrode (24) of the thyristor arrangement (22, 38, 40) which is connected in series with the load (18), is connected to a control voltage via a switching arrangement (26, 42, 42', 44) operated by a relay (52) controlled by the current convertor (54) in the circuit of the secondary load (16). The load circuit switch is opened when the predefined supply circuit maximum current is reached.
