Smoke density determination apparatus - uses extinction of light beam compared with reference beam

The apparatus is used for extinction determination of smoke density in chimneys, or dust concentration, measurement. The extinction modulus in the case of two or more different wave-lengths is measured, and the quotient is formed from the extinction modulum determined and evaluated. The light of a beam source (1) is split into a measuring beam (M) and a comparison beam (V) by means of a partly transmissive mirror (2). The measuring beam (M) is parallel aligned by a first converging lens (3). It passes through a light emergence window (4) into the measuring path with the smoke or other aerosol to be tested.
