A vehicle headlamp comprises a reflector with a main bulb located within it to produce a full beam, and a second reflector having an associated bulb and being located within the main reflector, the second reflector and bulb producing a beam for illuminating the road. Between the main bulb and the second reflector is provided a thermally insulating shield of e.g., aluminium or a heat resistant plastic (e.g., polyphenylene sulphide). Conventionally the second reflector is made from a plastic e.g., a polysulphonate and the shield protects it from the heat of the main bulb and so protects it from thermal degradation. Pref. the shield attached to the second reflector and curves over it. The shield may be smooth or corrugated.
