The device holds shut a hinged pressure vessel door and ensures that the pressure loads are evenly reacted around the rim. A number of sectors are driven radially by arms pivoted at one end on the sectors and at the other on an internally threaded hub. It is driven axially by a hand wheel which turns the captive screw on which the hub is mounted. An annular groove is cut inside the lip of the vessel, so that when the sectors are driven outwards, with the door shut, they engage in the groove and lock the door in place. The outside edges of the sectors are chamfered in such a way that locking the door also forces it into the vessel which compresses a ring seal to resist internal pressure.
