Lightweight clarifying vat - with free catenary false floor for sediment and worm extractor for spent grain

A curved bottom and side wall vat has suspended within it a perforated flexible sheet to act as sedimentation floor for the spent grain layer. The relative dimensions capacity and filling height are such that the free caternary taken up by the false floor due to the weight of grain leaves a uniform gap between it and the side walls of the vat, the edges of the sheet being loosely pressed against the plane vertical end walls of the vat. Spent grain is expelled through a port in one end wall, with a sliding door, by an archimedean screw conveyor in the lowest part of the false floor and extending along the whole length. The wort is drawn off through a number of vertical double walled tubes lowered into the grain from above on a common carrier plate and with perforated outer walls. Weight and cost reduction by eliminating reinforcement of side walls.
