Rotary heading machine pick box - pick holder bosses with bearing bed and pick plates proud of core discs

Pick box for rotary heading or mining machines is for a tooling head formed from circular core discs with pick holders and spacer discs and an end cup. Pick holder bosses (7) projecting proud of the core disc rims (2, 6) each have a bearing bed (8) adapted to the pick holder (9). Pick plates welded to the connection surface (10) of the bed thrust against one another at the sides and carry the picks (18, 19) themselves. The bed should comprise a bearing area (12) at right angles to the core disc radius (R) and additionally a supporting surface (13) at right angles on the bearing area so as to carry the pick holder (9) which thus points against the general sense of rotation of the head. The pick holder should be fixed to the bed by a guide pin (15) and countersunk screw (16) whose axes are at right angles to the bed plane.
