The change from one slide to the next following, or back to the previous one, is made by rotating a drum, consisting of a circle of eight pegs, through one eighth of a revolution. When the 'next slide' button is pressed, a basically T-shaped piece moves symmetrically along a rail and passes through a steering unit which holds back one or other end of the cross of the T, thus deflecting the upright (1). This upright, entering the space between two of the eight pegs, turns the drum while it is itself being deflected, and then is shifted clear when a stop on the T-shaped piece meets a fixed peg.
