Cyclopentadiene prepn. by liq. phase cleavage of dicyclopentadiene - in the presence of liq. hydrocarbons boiling below dicyclopentadiene

Cyclopentadiene is produced by the liq. phase cleavage of dicyclopentadiene in the presence of liq. hydrocarbons boiling below dicyclopentadiene. Methods leads to increase in yield as resin formation is inhibited. Specif., cleavage is effected in a suitable column, at 160-240 degrees C, esp. 180-200 degrees C, for 2-6 hrs., esp. 3-5 hrs., the liq. hydrocarbons boiling below dicyclopentadiene being introduced at the bottom of the column in amt. of 0.5-10 times, pref. 1-3 times the wt. of the initial dicyclopentadiene.
