A float measuring instrument has a floating body displaced against restoring force in direction of its height and tapered in opposite direction of flow. The actual curve for the first form (10) of the floating body indicates the measure of value of the flow as a function of the height of the body. (10). It is empirically ascertained. The original shape (10) for the floating body is changed along its height such that an altered floating body (12) is formed for which a measured value (D12) of the flow is assigned to each height (h1). The measured value (D12) of the flow lies on a given nominal curve.
