The altitude measuring and tracking station for monitoring over-flying targets consists of a television camera and laser rangefinder operating on the pulse transit-time principle. The camera and laser transmitter are mounted on a platform (6) in a tracking table and are connected to the microprocessor-controlled electronic analyser and tracking unit. The platform is suspended on its symmetrical axis PSI (8), the ends of which are mounted in a gimbal frame (10). The frame is mounted on pivots (19) in its THETA axis which is right-angles to the PSI axis of the platform. The pivot bearings are mounted in a tracking table (7). Both axes are connected to servo-motors. The height and tracking data are obtained not with conventional polar coordinates but with a quasi-Cartesian grid.
