Cleaning appliance has at least one endless brush wherein the support for the bristles is designed as at least one flexible endless belt (9) which runs round guide rollers (11, 12). At least one row of spaced tufts of bristles (10) are mounted on the narrow side of this belt. The bristles first work into the fibres of the carpet in one direction and then on their return path work in the opposite direction to ensure thorough cleaning of the carpet. The peripheral shape of the belt can be square, rectangular or triangular with the guide rollers being mounted in the corners. At least one of the guide rollers is motor driven.
