The vibration damper of low resonant frequency is made of a plastics material having non-linear modulus of elasticity, high internal friction, i.e. high mechanical hysterisis, and a low plastic deformation. The material may have the shape of a flat section strip. The strip can be bent into U-shape for mounting between a static base and load-supporting flange. The resonance frequency may be altered by a change in the bending strength brought about by a change in the chemical composition of the material. Another way of changing the resonant frequency is by a change in the load having regard to the non-linear modulus of elasticity.
