The input and output circuits are electrically completely isolated from each other. The device has a pulse generator for a pulse signal in accordance with the input circuit signal. A light emitting semiconductor component (1) generates optical radiation in accordance with a control signal. A photosensitive semiconductor component is optically coupled to the light emitting component. It generates a signal for the output circuit in accordance with the optical radiation of the photosensitive component. A control device feeds the control pulse signal to the light emitting semiconductor component in accordance with the pulse generator signal.
