The cine film subtitle display system includes an electro optical system for dividing a light beam into a group of separate rays. The rays are adjacent, and regularly spaced over a given angle. The rays are contained in a first deviation plane. The electro optical system produces each of the rays under the control of a first control signal. A deflection system means sweeps viewing surface with the separate rays in a direction which is determined by a second control signal. The separated rays are deflected along a second deflection plane for a non-zero angle with the first plane.
