The method and apparatus allow thin layers of metal to be formed in a single primary casting unit with a movable cooling surface where molten metal from a metal source freezes, and assembled into a body of metal. a predetermined thickness by arranging the layers in the face to face state; the temperature of each layer is that at which it is pressure welded to the contact surface of an adjacent layer. Pressure welding is then carried out and thus gives semi-finished products.
