Medicaments and pharmaceutical compsns. contain 2-hydroxy-phenylacetic acid derivs. (I) or their salts as active constituent. (where R1 is 1-10C alkyl, 3-8C, cycloalkyl or phenyl; R2 is H or 1-4C alkyl and R3 is F, Cl, Br, nitro or 1-4C alkyl and is situated in the ortho or para posn. with respect to the hydroxy grp.) Antiinflammatories, antiarthritics antipyretics analgesics and blood platelet aggregation inhibitors. In rat paw volume tests, using carriagenin to induce oedema, 5-chloro-4-cyclohexyl-2-hydroxy-phenylacetic acid (Cpd.A) has an oral ED50 of 0.7 mg/kg and in killed mycobacteria induced arthritis tests it has an oral ED50 of 1mg/kg. (I) may be administered orally, rectally or parenterally in the therapeutic or prophylactic treatment of rheumatism, thromboses, arthritis, etc. It is administered in daily doses of 20-3000 mg (pref. 60-300mg) in =1 unit doses of 5-1500mg (pref. 15-150mg) pref. administered 2-4 times daily.
