The screw-in studs (1, 11) for soccer or rugby boots comprise a screw (1) with an enlarged striated cylindrical head (2) which is driven into an undersize stub-socket (10). The socket (10) has a step enlarged opening (13) and the screw head (3) has a haunch (7) of taper or step-reduced dia. The arrangement prevents the screw head from eventually bearing on the sole of the shoe causing stud "rock" and finally disengagement. The screw may be driven into place by a tubular punch which engages the shoulder of the screw head (3), and stops when encountering the step (13) of the socket-mouth. The stud (11) has a hexagonal base for tightening onto the boot. The striations (6) on the screw-head (2) are parallel to the screw (3) axis and prevent rotation of the stud (11) relative to the screw (1).
