Skimmer for collecting floating and suspended pollutants from liq. - esp. to combat oil pollution of water and purify industrial effluent

Sepn. and collection of floating and suspended pollutants from a liq. involves the use of a perforated sheet which is passed through the liq. to pick up pollutant on a first side only. The sheet is then passed between a blower on the second side of the sheet and a receptacle on the first side to catch pollutant detached by blowing. The sheet is then passed back into the liq. for the cycle to restart. The sheet is pref. formed into a hollow cylinder sandwiched between two coaxial cages, of longitudinal rods joining power-driven end rings. The cylinder rotates about a horizontal axis with a lower part of its circumference dipping in the liq. to skin up pollutant. Compressed air is blown from a duct inside the hollow cylinder to detach pollutants. Detachment can be assisted by spraying a chemical soln. on the pollutant on the sheet. Used for skimming non-mixing pollutants from liq. esp. removing oil from water, paint from tanks, for water curtains of spray cabinets.
