The machine for producing deep drawn canisters from metal blanks consists of two presses connected horizontally by a horizontal punch driven by a double acting hydraulic ram. The hydraulic system for the punch is designed to produce a constant ram speed in one direction during the actual pressing and a maximum speed when clear of the die. At the end of the stroke of the punch, a control holds the punch still for a period, allowing a new blank to be loaded at the other end and for its alignment to be checked.
