1515575 Hatch operating means TRASCANDICA AG 9 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974] 37010/75 Heading E2M In a driving mechanism for hatch covers with at least one raisable and lowerable hatch cover section 1, the hatch cover section 1 can be displaced by means of at least one rack 5 mounted under the hatch cover section 1, the rack 5 projecting outside the perimeter of the hatch cover section to engage a pinion 12 on a drive motor 11 mounted outside or within the hatch cover section wherein a rack section 8 of the rack 5 is pivotable about a shaft 9 to expose a seal 4 when the hatch cover section is lowered against the coaming 2. The rack section 8 of the rack 5 is actuated by a helical spring 10 and a cam plate 16 on the coaming 2 is arranged to coact with a cam follower 17 on the toothed section 8 to swing the latter into engagement with the pinion 12 of the driving motor 11. An upstanding cam plate 15 forms an abutment for the rear surface of the rack section 8. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown) the spring 10 is dispensed with and is replaced by two mutually separate guide plates (15a, 15b) and a bracket plate 18 attached to the rear surface of the rack section 8.
