Water dispersible epoxy!-modified alkyd resin - for paint giving coatings with increased adhesion to metals, water resistance and corrosion resistance

The resin is produced from (A) 0-50 pts. wt. oil or fatty acid, (B) 10-50 pts. wt. polyhydric alcohol having 2-6 hydroxyls (excepting component (E)), (C) 0-25 pts. wt. 6-18C monobasic acid, (D) 15-35 pts. wt. 4-10 C polybasic acid or its anhydride, (E) 5-25 &ts. wt. polyoxyethylene glycol of M.W. 600-20,000 and (F) epoxy cpd., such that the ratio of hydroxyl/carboxyl gps. in (A) to (E) is 0.625-1.6. (F) is present in amt. 3-50 pts. wt. per 100 pts. wt. of the total of components (A) to (E). The water-dispersible, epoxy modified alkyd resin after being neutralised with an amine cpd., is added to water and other ingredients such as pigment, solvent and water-soluble resins for use as paint which can be applied to various substrates such as wood, paper, metal, etc.
