ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe invention provides a vehicle having a vehicle bodyincluding a floor and a roof defining an occupant compartment inwhich is mounted a vehicle seat accessible through a vehicle dooropening selectively opened and closed by a vehicle body door whosefront edge is pivotally secured to the vehicle body; an occupantrestraining belt arrangement comprising: a lap belt having oneend fixed adjacent a lower inboard portion of the door; a firstinertia retractor mounted adjacent a lower inboard portion of theseat and receiving the other end of said lap be a shoulderbelt having one end secured to an intermediate portion of saidlap belt between said one end and the other end thereof; a secondinertia retractor mounted on the roof within the occupant compart-ment adjacent an outboard upper rear portion of the seat; a belthanger mounted on the vehicle body within the occupant compartmentforward and above the seat and having a hook, said hook having anoperative position in which when said shoulder belt is manuallyhanged on said hook, said hook receives said shoulder be drivemeans for moving said hook from the operative position to an in-operative position in which said hook will release said shoulderbelt therefrom; control means for actuating said drive means tomove said hook from the operative position to the inoperativeposition upon closure of the door with the seat occupied; anda channel member mounted to the roof within the occupant compart-ment, said channel member slidably receiving an intermediateportion of said shoulder belt, to provide an arrangement in whichsaid shoulder belt extends diagonally across the chest of aseated occupant without touching the neck thereof when saidshoulder belt is in its occupant restraining position.
