In a tubular reactor free from internal fittings, with a two-component injector for the carbon black raw material for producing furnace black by pyrolysis of this raw material using the heat energy obtd. by combustion of a gaseous fuel, (i) one or more tangentially arranged slit-type feed channels for the combustion air are provided near the front end of the reactor (ii) a raw material injector is mounted axially at the front end of the reactor and has a forwardly situated strongly concentrating, mixing nozzle with a small spray angle of ca.8 degrees and (iii) gas lances fitted displaceably within the feed channel for the combustion air. Gives a marked increase in the yield of carbon black which can be produced from the same quantity of gaseous fuel as used in the known type of furnace with internal restrictor rings.
