Purification of effluent contg. dissolved, emulsified or very fine suspended organic and/or inorganic impurities, opt. after a pre-purifying stage for the removal of large impurities, by subjecting it to electrolysis in a horizontal electrical field in the presence of foam-forming substance and by removal of the foam produced.
