An irrigation and drainage installation for sports and athletic grounds and other green areas, comprising a layer composition (3) through which a pipe-work system is distributed, the layer (3) having on its underside and along its sides, a water- impermeable bath (4) made in one piece and of a material able to withstand the movement thereon of construction vehicles. The bath (4) may comprise granular aggregate in a bitumen matrix, or a multi-layer sheet comprising a plastics foil bedded between two bitumen paper outer layers both of which may be flocked on their outer surfaces. A sand layer is provided beneath the multi-layer sheet. The plastics foil is a continuous welded layer of plastics strips. IMAGE
