Sheet metal joint cover for prestressed concrete tank - is secured to base and wall of tank before prestressing

The joint construction is for use at the junction of the side walls and the base of a large, prestressed concrete liquid tank. The joint is covered by a thin sheet metal strip, firmly fixed to the concrete on both sides of the joint, and so arranged as to accommodate deflection associated with all loading conditions without damage. The base (3) of the cylindrical tank is separated from the side walls (2) by a horizontal joint. Sheet metal, covering the joint, is anchored to both concrete components before the concrete is stressed. When stressed but empty, the joint has maximum deflection and the metal cover maximum stress. Stress in the metal cover diminishes as the tank fills.
