Drag type separator for gases using aerofoil elements - having lattice of elements across flow passage with grooves along side to collect solid particles collecting in boundary layer
Particle impurities in gas streams are separated using a drag type separator. This has a number of aerofoil elements arranged as a lattice across the flow passage. Each element has a groove along the side which feeds into a draw off passage. The gas is accelerated to 30 m/sec past the element. The grooves are located immediately after the thickest portion of the element. The volum of boundary layer drawn off w.r.t. the main flow is in the ratio 1:5. Used to remove entrained dust particles and moisture droplets in air or other gas streams. The pressure loss through the separator only corresponds to the work necessary to remove the particles to cause vortexing and turbulence are much reduced.
