The temporary storage system is for material to be loaded, positioned on roller tracks. The storage device (10) is fitted with at least one vertically movable storage plate (40, 46) which can be inserted from above into a gap (64) between two adjoining rollers (14) of the roller track (12). The storage plate may then be lowered so that its upper loading surface lies in its lower end position below the upper edge of the rollers (14). A number of storage plates re positioned in the band direction within the distances of the gaps behind each other and are connected by a side traverse to form a storage platform.
