Printing block giving realistic reproduction of artists style - made as relief negative or original painting

A printing block is produced by the following method: a temporary base is coated with a coloured substance, pref. by painting on or drawing on, and then a layer of powder is sprinkled and embedded into this coating either while it is still soft or after it has been re-softened; this layer of powder is then covered with a matl. to form the block itself, this being sufficiently soft for the top surface layer of the powder to become embedded in it; after this block matl. has hardened, the temporary support, coloured coating and the lower powder granules are removed, leaving only those which are embedded in the block matl. The block matl. is pref. applied in a flowing condition, and the coloured layer may be removed by finally washing it out. The resulting effect in a picture produced from the block is an extremely realistic imitation of the original, indicating the style of the artist.
