The complex (I) consists of factors A, B, C and D, and the tetra (2-4C) acyl esters of factor A. The individual factors are also claimed. Factor A and its esters are of formula (II) (R, all the same, are H, a acetyl, propionyl or butyryl). The mixt. and its factors, have antifungal and antibacterial activity and they also inhibit dopamine-beta-hydrolase so are useful as hypotensives. They are active against microbes parasitic on plants and animals, esp. they are used for systemic control of Candida albicans. (I) is prepd. by submerged, aerobic cultivation of pyrenochaeta sp. NRRL 5768. Compsns. contg. factor A or its esters esp. include PVP of mol. wt. 10,000-360,000 esp. 10000-60000, as excipient.
