The mechanism is designed to induce an adjustable binding or braking effect on door hinges of the hook and sleeve type. It has a split elastic liner over a section of the axle pin. The hinge sleeve has an oversize bore which is threaded at the top, and which accommodates the liner and an externally threaded sleeve adjuster. The hinge pin passes through the liner and the adjuster, the latter being screwed in to compress the liner and cause it to bind on the pin.
