The instant invention relates for example to techniques for the control of mosquitoes by the use of a fluorochemical agent composition which forms a durable, rapidly spreading water- insoluble surface film. The fluorochemical agent has a density greater than water, a solubility of less than 0.01% in water, a spreading pressure of preferably 50 dynes/cm at 10 mg/m2 of water surface and is applied with a diluent to form a highly mobile film under field conditions. Optionally, a biocidal agent, such as an insecticide, algaecide, molluscicide, herbicide, or mixtures thereof, can be present in the fluorochemical/diluent composition. Useful fluorochemicals for use herein are those of the formula (Rf)nTmZr, wherein Rf is a perfluorinated aliphatic group, T is a connecting group or covalent bond, and Z is a neutral or polar group; n is 1 or 2, m is 0 or 1 and r is 1 or 2. The film is especially effective under adverse environmental conditions.
