Heart pacemaker and QRS wave function monitor - stimulates ventricle and atrium in time related sequence when required

The heart pacemaker incorporates a number of cascade circuits, a primary cascade circuit monitoring and if necessary stimulating the atrium. The secondary cascade circuit monitors the activity of the ventricle and stimulates this if contraction does not naturally follow within a preset time limit of between 120 ms, and 200 ms. A further circuit monitors the atrium and stimulates should this not automatically contract following either natural or stimulated contraction of the ventricle within 600 to 750 ms. Single pole electrodes are fitted to the atrium and ventricle, the body of the pacemaker forms a common neutral electrode.
