METHOD FOR CREATING A PERMEABLE FRAGMENTEDZONE WITHIN A SUBTERRANEAN CARBONACEOUSDEPOSIT FOR IN SITU COAL GASIFICATIONAbstract of the DisclosureGaseous fuel valves are recovered by gasifyinga zone of relatively high permeability within a sub-terranean carbonaceous deposit which is formed by (a)gasifying a portion of the carbonaceous deposit toprovide a cavity, (b) placing at least one explosive devicein the deposit in the vicinity of the cavity so thatenergy generated upon detonation of the explosive deviceextends into the cavity, and (c) detonating theexplosive device thereby causing a portion of the carbon-aceous deposit to be fragmented and to collapse into thecavity.
