The floor of a supply tank is formed by a conveyor belt which extends into the scoop chamber, passes over guide rollers and feeds the potatoes to the planting belts. The shaft of the guide which drives the conveyor belt is connected with the drive of the planting belts. A feeler mechanism (22) for the potatoes is arranged in scoop chamber. This mechanism (22) acts on a stepping mechanism fitted on the shaft (16) via a linkage (24, 25). The stepping mechanism regulates the advance of the conveyor belt. (13). A switching gear (29) is rigidly fixed to the shaft and a casual drive shaft (17) carries a boom (26) on which a switching tooth (27) can move radially and engages in the gear (29) under spring pressure.
