The measuring probe is introduced into a hole in a smoke pipe to measure parameters such as temperature, blackness and amount of carbon dioxide. The prove slides in a guided system to permit accurate positional adjustment. Smoke pipe (10) has a cylindrical measurement hole (11) against edge (15) of which the conical section of the guide (17) maintains sealed contact. The guide has a bore hole (19) in which a measuring probe (20) can slide and is locked by a stop (21) with a locking screw (23). A base (27) with feet (25,26) is held against the pipe by a collar (37) which a rapid action locking element (35). A compression spring (50) maintains the conical joint in sealed contact with the pipe.
