The ruler has a number of different scales, which can be brought individually into the working posn. It comprises a body (1) with drawing edge (2) on which there are mounted a number of strips (51, 52, 53) in a stepped formation and each scaled along the edges. Each of the strips slides either sideways or obliquely cut into the working position, in which it is lockable, and where it is parallel and close to the drawing edge. Each strip can be so formed as to allow pressing with slight force against the drawing edge.
