The sailboard sail rig has the sail (1) secured to the mast (2) and to a boom (3). The boom carries a conventional trimming device (5) for setting the sail profile to give the required degree of curvature. A double gripping-spar (4) runs either side of the sail from a pivot waist-high on the mast to a sleeve (6) around the boom, free to slide but lockable in position, connected to a sail tensioner. The parts of the spar aft of the after hand position are angled downwards 20 deg. or more pref. 30-45 deg. and the spar is stiffened by struts (8) across the angle.
