Combustion of (partially) explosive gas mixtures - using multiple passages of small dia. angled to burner axis to keep velocity above combustion velocity

The gas to be burnt is directed into a number of separate streams which serve to smooth the flow. The min. flow velocity of these streams is maintained at a level in excess of the max. possible flame spread velocity in the gas mixt. The jets so formed are inclined at an angle to the axis of the burner. This creates a vortex in the combustion chamber above the critical limit, with peripheral forward flow and a central backflow. Additional air or fuel can be introduced into the burner. Useful for disposing of gas mixts. which can contain fuels etc. at levels within the explosive limit. Flash-back from the burner is prevented.
