Natural or synthetic fibre fabrics are jet-dyed in a closed cycle in a high pressure vessel by using the kinetic energy of fluid issuing from a nozzle or bank of nozzles to convey the fabrics in rope form into or through the dyeing plant. Energy is derived by tangential impinging of the fluid jet onto fabric relative to its direction of movement. Displacement of fabrics into or through plants which devoid of dyeing liquor or only partially filled with the liquor is possible. Dyeing periods are reduced.
